I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I got this score from a friend…
… and I was captured almost from the first tunes I listened to. I believe this score might be among Horner’s best!
Horner uses a beautifully done leitmotif which he repeats permanently, but he varies it quite masterfully and it never gets boring. The music is wonderfully ambient, magical and mysterious – and just listening to it tells a story!
I particularly like track 3 - “Pure Spirits Of The Forest” – a harmonic and subdued weave of sounds that culminates into an awesome drumline and glides back into quiet waters again.
Track 7 – “Jake’s First Flight” - made me feel like gliding myself and being part of his flight.
Track 13 – “War” may be the best track – an impetus of emotions – the musically painted picture of a war (with an impressive chorus line) that dissolves into pure beauty.
The theme song, done by Leona Lewis, is a perfect ending end equally magical.
I have found only a faint resemblance to the Titanic score, and just a bit of “Braveheart” (both are great scores) - It’s a unique Horner …
